“Matt, you came out to Lafayette, LA back in ’97 or ’98 to play at Grant Street Dancehall. I came in with one of my friends just as the concert was ending. Typically, Grant Street concerts start late so that’s when I showed up. I was heartbroken to find out I just made it in for the last song. Nonetheless, she and I got a beer and sat down. You came walking out of the back after the set was finished next to where I was seated… I stopped you, introduced myself and told you I was one of your biggest fans. I also told you that I was sorry I missed your set, and that I was there to hear several songs but “A Woman Like You” was hands down my favorite and possibly one of THE most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, and was so sorry I missed it. We spoke a couple of minutes more and then you excused yourself only to come back with 2 guys from your band and sang the entire song to me with a passion that I will never be able to put into words. What a very special moment in my life to be serenaded in such a way to such a beautiful song. I wanted to thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty for a faithful fan. I cannot begin to tell u what an impact of what probably seemed like a small act of kindness to you at the time has had on my life. That song is still, my all time favorite and carry with it very special moments in my life that I will never, ever forget. I’ve been blessed to meet many people in my life from Presidents, actors and artists….you, my dear, remain my favorite. Thank you for making a sweet memory with me…. an impact in person and musically that will last a lifetime. I am forever grateful.”
